I bought it new last summer and Win 10 was already installed. Not even once!. My wife's laptop also has Win 10 and for some reason she has the ability to print and scan from her laptop.
In the past three days I have wasted a total of probably 18 hours fooling with this thing. I am ready to sell the damned thing for a dollar to the first comer. I no longer believe that there is ANY way to get it to work here, and I need sleep desperately now. MrRobot: I have made NO changes to my printer. None whatsoever. I am going to turn this thing OFF for now and go and get some desperately-needed sleep. Perhaps later today I will have a reply in this forum which contains useful information on how to make this bloody printer do more than just take up space on my table.
If there were a ring on it to which I could tie a rope, it might - just possibly - make a usable boat anchor. As a printer it is useless to me! Refer this article to know more information about installing windows built-in drivers. Also obstructions in between. They say to not use a surge protector, but plug into the wall outlet. I have mine on a surge protector, thank you very much! So I used the disc that comes with the printer they say to use the HP site as the disc may be out-of-date.
So I downloaded software and it failed to find the driver even though it is downloaded on the computer. First I saw a tip to move the computer close to the printer, which I did. I had the old printer gathering dust in between. Open HP Smart — it may already be on your list of Charms. If not, find it at:. In HP Smart along the left margin is a printer symbol.
Click it and find Set up a new Printer. Work through that. A reply is greatly appreciated, if suggestions help or not, as the multitude of volunteers on the forums respond to lots of queries, which requires a great deal of time.
Good luck. Thanks again for your time and effort. In your previous reply to me you mentioned distance between pieces of equipment as possible issues. My printer is located about four inches from the laptop I am using. Both laptop and printer are about twelve feet from my router. My laptop connects to my router via an Ethernet cable. My printer connects via wifi and I do not see how the distance or the router could cause my problems because my wife also connected by Ethernet to our router can use the printer without problems.
It took 42 minutes to delete the HP software from my system, so now I will restart my system and then try to fool with registry and permissions as you suggest. RichAnt - I sincerely doubt that the distance between my printer and my router is a factor in my problem. My wife prints without difficulty using the printer and the same router I use. If I have problems printing because of the distance, I would expect my wife to have the same problem. She does not. Thank you very much for your kind reply!
MrRobot: The "permissions" fix seems to have done the trick! It installed perfectly on the first try. It took a while longer to convince Win 10 that my is my "default" printer, and now it works perfectly. I hope that HP gets my "instant ink" to me soon, my printer indicates that the ink level in my color cartridge is very low! HP publishes a Windows 10 driver for your printer, which you can find here. That means HP does , in fact, support your printer on Windows 10, or as you might put it, your printer is compatible.
Was this reply helpful? That is when things went haywire. It was your rep who finally decided for me to help reset my computer to setting prior to installation of update. HP printer now works fine with Windows 10 without update.
They're certainly polite, but most don't have much real knowledge. Since I posted, I have been getting replies that I said the Envy was not compatible with Windows 10, also get "nailed" for saying Microsoft rep after spending hours working with them over the phone and on my computer is not a Microsoft rep but a 3rd party that Microsoft hires. The reply indicated that these people do not know what they are doing and only read a set script.
GOT IT. This is my last reply. That is when the Envy would no longer work. My computer recognized the printer but would not print or scan.
I tried removing and reinstalling and checking for HP printer updates. Chat line with the 3rd party Microsoft rep. We tried several things, including removing the Envy , reinstalling, and checking for latest updates.
Finally, whoever I was chatting with, recommended that I "reset" my computer for a date prior to my installing the Windows 10 update. We chose a date 4 days ago. Bottom line: This did the trick.
